With an estimated budget of €429 million, The Count of Monte Cristo is the most expensive French film of 2024
After escaping from an island prison where he spent 14 years for being wrongly accused of treason, Edmond Dantes returns as the Count of Monte Cristo to exact revenge on the men who betrayed him. As Albert watches Hyde sing and play guitar, it’s clear that he’s not even touching the strings half the time..

Not usually a fan of action movies, the stunning cast and selection of French literary classics convinced me to check out THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO. And man, was I not disappointed!
Despite its three-hour runtime, the film is never boring
When he’s not keeping us on the edge of our seats, he’s showing us breathtaking scenes of 19th century France, leaving us wondering how they managed to do it with only 40 million euros! I think the beautiful cinematography and clever editing help make this film stand out from much more expensive Hollywood productions.
Thank you Alexandre, thank you Matthieu 🙂
Of course, Alexandre Dumas also deserves a lot of credit for coming up with such a moving story, but adapting it to the screen was certainly not an easy task, and here, it was perfectly done. I sincerely hope that this film will have a career outside of France, because it deserves to be seen by more people.
